The role of the Tasmanian Administrative Review Advisory Council (TARAC) is to provide strategic advice to the Attorney-General on the development of administrative law in Tasmania.
Its formal terms of reference are to:
- review and monitor developments in administrative law and recommend to the Attorney-General improvements that might be made to the administrative law system
- ascertain, and keep under review, the classes of administrative decisions that are not the subject of review by a court, tribunal or other body
- make recommendations to the Attorney-General as to whether any of the classes of decisions should be the subject of review by a court, tribunal or other body
- review the adequacy of the law and practice relating to court review of administrative decisions and to make recommendations to the Attorney-General as to any improvements that might be made in that law or practice
- facilitate the training of members of authorities of the State in exercising administrative discretions or making administrative decisions
- make recommendations to the Minister as to the manner in which tribunals engaged in the review of administrative decisions should be constituted
- promote knowledge about the State's administrative law system
- consider and report to the Attorney-General on matters referred to the Council by the Attorney-General
